FRIDAY FAVORITES – Quarantine Life

May 1, 2020 By AJ Leave a Comment

When I wrote my last Friday Favorites “Quarantine Life,” I did not think I would be drafting another one, many weeks later. My Quarantine Life began on Friday, March 13, so today marks seven weeks of this lifestyle and also means that as it would happen, my birthday, which is a week from today, will mark two months sheltering at home. How annoying. But, as my mom keeps telling me, “this too shall pass” and as the commercials on TV all tell us, “we’re alone together,” “we’ll get through this,” and so on. Just imagine what this would be like if we did not have all this wonderful technology at our fingertips…. So there’s that.

Quarantine Life

WHAT I READ

  • People keep posting this list of Donut shops in LA that are offering delivery and takeout right now. I am not sad about it.
  • Trevor Noah proves he’s even more awesome than we realized.
  • Get into this — the psychology of wearing makeup when you are working from home.
  • TOM HANKS WILL SAVE US ALL. Of course.

OTHER BLOGGERS & INFLUENCERS

  • Every other week, The Hollywood Picture News is still assembling a weekend watch and it’s jam-packed with recommendations right now!
  • I have been bookmarking recipes like crazy. I want to make this honey mustard from The Kitchn, this carbonara mac & cheese from SpookForkBacon, And Karlie Kloss’ gooey butter cake. I am a pillar of health, y’all.
  • Fit & Awesome is dishing out some great, health advice for staying at home.

EARLIER THIS WEEK

  • Did you see the Goonies reunion?! It was ADORABLE.
  • Is anyone else watching “We’re Here” on HBO? I’m so in love. I just watched the first two episodes.
  • I discovered the ultimate time-suck. The live webcam from Times Square. I could watch this all day. Don’t ask me why.
  • I received some superb face-masks from Pinup Girl Clothing. They keep restocking and the prints are super fun.

VIDEO SPOTLIGHT

  • Loving this UK “Times Like These” music video from numerous pop stars, including he song’s originators, The Foo Fighters:

  • If you are not watching John Krasinski’s “Some Good News,” what are you even doing with you Quaratine Life?
  • This Stephen Sondheim special was absolutely wonderful. The showing of this gorgeous “who’s who” of Broadway-and-then-some compilation was delayed by some frustrating technical difficulties at first, but once it got off the ground, we went into 30+ musical homages to the Maestro. Watch it if only to see Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski and Audra McDonald bequeath us “The Ladies Who Lunch” dressed in bathrobes whilst shipping cocktails.

This is my curated “book” of inspiration. I ke This is my curated “book” of inspiration. I keep these quotes or odes in my favorite photos folder in my phone and oftentimes, at least one of these little cards brings me a lot of comfort. If any of all of them do that for you, I am happy to share them. Scroll through, read, and let these ideas sink in. #mentalhealth #quarantinelife #selflove #selfcare #inspo #instaquote #instaquotes #instagood #friendship
I was talking with some friends today about teache I was talking with some friends today about teachers. And it made me think about my most favorite teachers. At U of A, Professor Bernardi recognized my talent for writing and inspired me to wish for bigger things. He helped me see, at a very tough time, that I could still achieve great things. But I never would have found such a love for writing were it not for Mr. Perry, my English teacher in my senior year of high school, who taught me that every word should have a purpose. And in high school, there was also Mr. Thomas, who instilled in me a deep love of history. I also thought about my beloved elementary school teachers - there were a few at my school I adored. Among them, Mrs. Borin who was just a cool, cool lady. She was a forward-thinker and I was lucky that after my fourth grade year, she moved up to sixth grade so I got to have her again. And pictured with me here is Mrs. Klepetar, who happens to be my friend's Mom (something we did not even put together until we'd been friends for a few years), who recognized a seven year old who flat out resented math but got her to take a little more pride in it with customized extra credit assignments -- she gave me an audience to show my work and that was pretty clever. THANK YOUR TEACHERS, friends. ESPECIALLY NOW. They help shape the adults we become. #teachersrule #Thankyouteachers #TBT

I was catching some good light while I cleaned my apartment today so why not a #cosplay #maskselfie? @myshieldmask is actually a client now but was my favorite mask brand before that happened, I swear. They’re soft and comfortable and come out great when I wash them. Also, loads of colors and patterns to choose from, sizes, etc. Basically I can’t gush enough about them. (10 Points for Gryffindor!!!) AND if you are a RAVENCLAW, I have a mask for you, too. (See: Next slide.) Drop a comment if you want to be in the raffle. #wearamask #quarantinelife #harrypotter #ravenclaw #gryffindor
