Friday Favorites – Here Comes The Rain Again

November 4, 2017 By AJ Leave a Comment

OMIGOD THE WEATHER. Oh sure, traffic is at it’s absolute worst (on Tuesday, it took me TWO HOURS to get home. I cried.) but the rain is coming, the clouds are rolling in — this is my happier place, folks. I got out my big, soft blankets tonight, ordered in Chinese, and put on some reruns. It’s heaven in here.

WHAT I READ

  • Sliders from Israel?! I’m intrigued.
  • What are your feelings on the Bacon Toaster? I own too many kitchen gadgets but I almost can’t resist….
  • But speaking of, I’m actually gunning for the frozen dessert maker Oprah put on her Favorite Things list this year. Her list was pretty lackluster for me — I was drawn to this and a soft pair of socks.
  • Predicting food trends in 2018 – really interesting.
  • If you’re at all into “old Hollywood,” you might enjoy this pictorial on classic Hollywood friendships.

OTHER BLOGGERS & INFLUENCERS

  • How about a recipe for Apple Cider Cookies with Caramel?
  • And this dream wishlist of baking tools?
  • Social Media Club is hosting a panel focusing on Instagram Stories. There will be a Corgi there.

EARLIER THIS WEEK

  • Misflix invited me to screen Thor: Ragnarok in advance and review it for their site.
  • I worked right up til the buzzer on my Halloween costume and then some bitch stole my look….

VIDEO SPOTLIGHT

  • ((Breathes into paper bag)) THERE…. IS…. A…. BARBRA DOCUMENTARY!

  • And lastly, I shall leave you with this video, which I saw on Twitter, and brings me immeasurable joy:

What’s In My Pocket Friday

The Best of the web

I save things in my pocket all week long and look forward to sharing the highlights with you every Friday!

Pocket enables users to save something they find online for later. I find it especially handy as a Google Chrome extension — I only have to click a button to immediately save something to my pocket. Once something is saved, the content is visible on any device — phone, tablet, computer, and even offline.

  • Jimmy Fallon and Jack Black recreated Extreme’s epic “More Than Words” video. See below or click here for the side-by-side comparison. SO GOOD.

  • In Nebraska, a woman filed a class action lawsuit against all of the gay people. No, really. (A judge threw it out.)
  • These chocolate covered strawberries look ridiculous.
  • Fox Home Entertainment announced a release date for the “Rogue Cut” version of X-Men: Days of Future Past. I AM SO EXCITED. Fun fact: It comes out on July 14, which is the 15th anniversary of the very first Singer-directed X-Men movie.

  • This video of a great dane puppy talking in his sleep is precious
  • Comedy Central’s “At Midnight” has become one of my favorite shows. Are you watching it?
  • An interesting hypothesis – Should Facebook buy Meerkat?
  • Birtney’s new single leaked. It’s not bad….?
  • Today I am 36 years old. YIKES.

Earlier this week…

  • I revealed a deep, dark secret
  • My Mother’s Day Gift Guide has proven to be pretty popular

  • My trip to New York was really a trip to New Jersey because once I stepped into my best friend’s home there, I felt warm, cozy and loved and hardly wanted to leave. However I’m afraid this means most of my vacation photos are of her dogs.

  • When I did go into the city, I saw an absolutely magnificent Broadway musical called Fun Home. I won’t tell you what it’s about. It’s layered and complicated and beautiful and amazing. The talent in it is beyond amazing.

  • Apparently people still care about Grey’s Anatomy. I stopped watching when Izzy started hallucinating. But I think everyone who posted spoilers on Facebook in real time last night stinks. Not nice, people.
  • London knows how to properly celebrate their icons. Look how they paid tribute to Monty Python.
  • This journalist wears the same thing to work every day and I think she’s amazing.
  • Blogger Chris Lam tells us how NOT to get a bikini bod. God bless her.
  • I caught onto this genius Thug Kitchen cookbook commercial. “I love to cook good food but who has the fucking time….”

  • I thought this was great from PR Daily: “Five Pitches That Journalists Don’t Care About“
  • Terrific interview in the NY Times with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings. Have you watched Daredevil? It’s amazing.
  • This video made the rounds — Pandora Jewelry gathered a group of children, aged three to nine, and their mothers to participate in a simple experiment that basically left me in a puddle of warm n’ fuzzy tears.

What’s in my pocket Friday?

  • The newest Netflix Original Series trailer for ‘Grace and Frankie’ looks terrific. Bonus points because two of the stars (Martin Sheen, Lily Tomlin) were on ‘The West Wing’ and two were on HBO’s ‘Newsroom’ (Jane Fonda, Sam Waterston). I love Aaron Sorkin.
  • Speaking of trailers, I really couldn’t get into the first season of ‘True Detective’ but I’ll try again with season two. Especially because I think Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell will surprise us all and I am pleased to see Rachel McAdams in something more cerebral than her norm.
  • I’ve been very patient and it seems like I may finally get my Golden Girls Lego set after all…

  • Here are 23 times Golden Retriever puppies were adorable dweebs.
  • This guy was sick of looking at benign office walls so he purchases 9000 post-it notes and got to work. The results are outstanding.
  • Would you use a “Fanny Basket” while shopping? Don’t know what that is? Click here.
  • Ever seen something so sweet and cute it all but made you CRY?

  • I went to a beautiful wedding on Wednesday (Yes! On a weekday!) and loved playing dress-up with friends, seeing two people I adore get their happily ever after, and meeting loads of wonderful, new people. It’s often easy to bitch and moan about weddings but this was a really joyous occasion. Even though it happened mid-week, it seems like a nice way to close out this post and head off into the weekend.
